Schizophrenic or not?

I was admitting this patient into the ER. He was a paranoid schizophrenic who had been off of his medications for a while and was experiencing an agitated episode. He was extremely polite and answered my direct questions coherently. I was quite impressed. He continued telling me about his theories regarding life, the government, and a stream of thoughts about whatever he was thinking about.

The longer I sat there speaking with him and listening, the more he made sense. He made some remarks that I secretly fully agreed with him. He was very articulate and intelligent. Hmmm...it really made me wonder.
Has anyone else experienced something like this?

  1. You seem to have commonalities with a schizophrenic; I seem to have commonalities with you.... uh-oh. If the transitive property holds true in mental health disorders I'm deep kim chee! ;-)

  2. It would NOT be good for me to run into these kinds of patients. Especially if they made any sort of sense. I am all about some conspiracy theories!! Of course he would definitely keep me entertained the whole night.

    1. He had definite conspiracy theories and it did entertain me, almost in an educational way (Yes, I dared to say it). At least it wasn't about bleeding walls or baby heads floating in the air. I don't have anything in common with those types of schizophrenics (to my relief).
